Heritage Futures Network brings together professional museums in Finland

The new science-based action project entitled ‘Towards eco-social all-round education. The Heritage Futures Network of Museums as a catalyzer for sustainability transformation’ has been launched at the Finnish Museums Association.

During its first year of operation the project strengthens and accelerates the cultural sustainability transformation of individuals, communities, and society by bringing together Finland’s 152 professional museums into a permanent, dynamic and proactive Heritage Futures Network for this work. The process of joint development between museums aims to create new museum strategies, tools and practices that accelerate the transformation to sustainability. Museum staff will also be offered additional training to strengthen their skills in sustainability and future-oriented thinking.

The following museums will act as developers for the project: The Finnish Forest Museum Lusto, Forum Marinum Maritime Centre and The Finnish Museum of Photography. In addition, a wide range of museums will be invited to participate as pilot museums to test the tools.

The project is funded by the Nessling Foundation.

The project manager in the Finnish Museums Association is Pauliina Latvala-Harvilahti.
