Petra Havu takes over as Chairperson of the NEMO Executive Board

Petra Havu, CEO of the Finnish Museums Association and member of the board since 2022, has been appointed by NEMO’s Executive Board to take over the role as Chairperson starting 1 August 2024. After 10 years as Chair of the NEMO Executive Board, David Vuillaume is stepping down since he is leaving the German Museums Association.

Siida is the Museum of the Year 2024

The 2024 museum awards were presented at the Museum Gala in Jyväskylä on 23 May 2024. The recipient of the Museum of the Year 2024 award was Sámi Museum and Nature Centre Siida. The Special Award 2024 was presented to Varkaus Museum Centre Konsti. The Museum Publication of the Year award was presented to the book “Lintuhuviloita Savonlinnasta haudankaivaja Ruuskasen tapaan” (“Gravedigger Ruuskanen’s bird houses in Savonlinna”) published by Riihisaari – Savonlinna Museum.

The Museum Days start tomorrow in Jyväskylä – the theme is the Investigative Museum

This year, the national Museum Days will be held in Jyväskylä between 22–24 May 2024 in collaboration with the museums in Jyväskylä, the City of Jyväskylä and the University of Jyväskylä.  The theme is the Investigative Museum – research as the power of the museum.The Museum Days will culminate on Thursday at the Museum Gala where the Finnish Museums Association and the Finnish National Committee of ICOM will grant the Museum of the Year award.

Study: Perceived Well-being-related Benefits of Finnish Museums Worth Hundreds of Millions Euros

According to a recent study, museum visitors feel that, on average, visiting a museum provides positive well-being-related benefits worth EUR 864 per visit. The value of visiting a museum for the visitor was analysed in a new type of study comprising eight Finnish museums and the Finnish Museums Association. The study group was led by the internationally renowned doctor and researcher John H. Falk from the United States.
